Thank You

I want to express my sincere gratitude to the residents of North Salt Lake who have seen fit to elect me to serve you. Over the past year, during my campaign and my first year on the Council, I have determined there is a lack of communication from the City to residents. I hope to use this blog to keep residents updated on current events and actions of the Council - as well as my perspective of certain issues.

East Bench Park (Bonneville Shoreline Trailhead)

As many of you are aware, we recently took public comments on park options for the open space located at the south end of Eagle Point Drive. We held three open houses during the month of September to take comments on three options. The first option included a parking lot, restroom and open space. The second option included a parking lot, pavilion, tot lot open grass area and open space. Option three includes all of the above, as well as a cemetery that would include approximately 5,700 plots.

On October 19th the Council considered the options and the comments made both in person and by email by residents. The Council granted the City Staff approval to move forward with option 2. The Council also considered a motion to grant City staff approval to conduct feasibility studies regarding option 3 and directing them examine design options that would allow for the addition of a cemetery after Option 2 is complete. while this motion passed, I voted against it because I believe it went against the overwhelming majority of public sentiment against Option 3. Additionally, the open space in question is a finite resource. Once the plots sell out, the City will be responsible to maintain the cemetery forever without any recurring income. further, once it is a cemetery, it can never be something else.
